The organizing committee of the Crystal Compass national award began submitting applications for participation. The bidding campaign, as in the previous year, will be completed on March 1. Following the results of the award, winners will be selected in 11 categories, namely, in Scientific Achievement, Enlightenment, Publication, Photographic Work, Public Recognition, and others.

We’d like to remind that the Award is held for the third year. During this time, participating in it were more than 300 authors and research teams from 71 regions of Russia, as well as from Ukraine, Belarus, USA, Egypt, etc. During the online voting more than 270 thousand users have assessed the best projects.
The winning projects included the following ones: Drilling of a deep borehole at Vostok station in Antarctica; the first penetration into subglacial Lake Vostok; Golden Turtle Festival; All-Russian Ecological Clean-up Day, Circumnavigating the globe in an inflatable catamaran, "Chernobyl: black true story, black pain" photo project and others.
Andrey Vetoshkin, Co-Chairman of the Award Organizing Committee, Deputy Director General of Gazprom Transgaz Krasnodar, noted another 2 nominations - Best Social Media Project on Nature and Natural Heritage Conservation and Best Media Coverage. "19 socio-information projects have applied for the Award. Southern Federal District in this category will compete with Siberia and the North-West. 14 projects have applied for Best Media Coverage nomination. The most active regions are Astrakhan, Lipetsk and Kurgan Regions, St. Petersburg and Chuvashia", commented Mr. Vetoshkin. "Since the award is aimed at the development of civil society and the generalization of the most valuable regional experience in this area, 8 projects from all those submitted have been selected by the Organizing Committee to compete for the Civic Position nomination.
Crystal Compass National Award was established in 2012 by Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society and the Gazprom in the Kuban Corporate Association. The initiative was presented to the President of the Russian Geographical Society, S.K. Shoigu and received his support.
